28 years after
the band Minor Threat released the song 'Straight Edge', the drug free
subculture has become a worldwide phenomenon. Originating from Punk and
Hardcore music, the most widely associated perception of Straight Edge
involves the abstinence from alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
EDGE - Perspectives on Drug Free Culture traces
the subculture from its early roots in the beginning of the 1980s to
this day by drawing a very differentiated and diverse picture through
in-depth interviews with 12 individuals. The documentary takes the
viewer behind and beyond the scenes of Straight Edge. Artists,
Musicians, activists and the people that shaped the idea from the
beginning, such as Ian Mackaye (Minor Threat/Fugazi), Ray Cappo (Youth
of Today/Shelter) and Karl Buechner (Earth Crisis), give witness to
their perception of the history of Straight Edge and comment on the
praise and criticism.
